Waste Reduction Week

Join us to learn about Waste Reduction Week from October 21 - 25.

Repair Monday | October 21

Repair is a great way to save money, learn new skills, and support your local repair shops and tradespeople. The concept of getting together to repair things in your community isn’t new.

Visit our display to learn how Lawrence Allen Centre and Hoarding for Humanity have partnered to divert construction materials from landfills and support the surrounding community.

Textiles Tuesday | October 22

Did you know Canadians throw out nearly 500 million kilograms (or about a billion pounds) of clothing and fabric-containing home goods every year? Globally, textile waste has increased dramatically due to the rise in clothing consumption and production. Textiles Tuesday raises awareness of the environmental consequences of clothing and textile consumption and provides information on how you can extend the life of your clothing.

Visit our displays to learn Lawrence Allen Centre, Diabetes Canada and Value Village (if they agree) support the diversion of textiles to Landfill.

E-Waste Wednesday | October 23

In 2022, the world produced 62 billion kg of electronic waste (e-waste)—the equivalent of 1.55 million trucks—double the amount generated in 2010 (Global e-waste monitor, 2024).

Lawrence Allen Centre supports the diversion of e-waste as part of our sustainability efforts. Please bring any of your old electronics that you haven’t been able to dispose of and we will have it disposed for you. We as a community can ensure we have done our part to support our environment.

Plastics Thursday | October 24

Since the 1950s, 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been generated worldwide, and only 23% of those plastics have been recovered or recycled. It is estimated that an additional 12 billion tonnes of plastic will be lost to disposal by 2050.

Join us at our display to learn more about our recycling program and the commitment of Lawrence Allen Centre and Beeclean Building Maintenance to ensure our waste is reduced and diverted from landfills.

Food Waste Friday | October 25

Take the pledge and commit to making choices that will keep your food from becoming waste. You can take the pledge as an individual, school, business/organization, household, or community.

Join us at our display to learn about how Lawrence Allen Centre has partnered with Darling Ingredients to recycle all oil and grease produced in our building.
